Our Online Reflection Journal

We will be writing about what we have learned online. This is a place where you can read at home and discuss what you are learning with your family.

How we Use Energy Across the Seasons

We learned that we use energy in different ways across the seasons.
In the wintertime, we use energy to warm us up.
In the summertime, we use energy to stay cool.

We also learned that we use the most electrical energy during the night. Schools though use most of their electrical energy during the day.

Trees Around the Seasons

Today we learned that:

  • In the Spring, buds grow on the branches

  • In the Summer, leaves grow

  • In the Fall, the leaves fall down and they change colour

  • In the Winter, there are no leaves on the branches, but there is snow.

Why do trees change?

Trees have to let their leaves go because they need to survive during the winter. The winds in the Fall push the leaves off the branches.

Take a look at the videos of us showing the tree across the seasons:

What activities can we do all year long?

Today, we learned that people love to do activities in all seasons. How can people do the same activity all year round?

We know...Inventions have been created so that people can do their activities all year round. Some of the inventions we learned about today are: greenhouses, ice rinks and community centres, just like our very own Crescent Town Club.

Responsibilities change when seasons change

In social studies, we have been learning about different responsibilities that people have. In science, we have been learning about different seasons.

We put our learning together and talked about different responsibilities that people have when seasons change!

We read a book called The Village Garage and learned about people's responsibilities (jobs) in different seasons.

Showing our learning at home

Our class has been so busy continuing their learning at home!

Without any help from a teacher, many students in Ms. Fraser's class have worked at home to draw pictures, write words, and make posters about what they are learning about seasonal changes.

Way to go, grade 1's! I am very proud of you.

Forever Friends

Today we read a book called Forever Friends. We learned that many things change. The weather changes, the flowers change, the trees change, the seasons change, people change and animals change. Some animals hibernate and other animals migrate while some stay the same. We also learned that even though things change, some things stay the same. Friendship is something that stays the same.

We learned to draw lines to show how we could move our bodies. We made a dance showing the friendship between a bird and a rabbit.
